Usually we want the provider who will be paying for the interpreter services to contact us about interpreter services. If you need an interpreter for a funeral , wedding or other family event, please contact us with the information (date, time, location with address, etc.) to request services.
If you are having trouble with a provider unwilling to provide interpreter services for you, ASLIS can assist with communication about the importance of having an interpreter and ADA laws. We are not always successful in convincing an unwilling person to provide services, but sometimes it helps to have another party giving information. Please contact our office to discuss your particular situation.
If the interpreter is scheduled through ASLIS, we can look at our database and let you know who the interpreter will be. If the appointment is not through us, you can contact your provider to check.

Sometimes your preferred interpreter might not be available. Any time you have a question regarding who will be at your appointment, contact us and we can give you more information and possibly make a switch with interpreters.

Breathe! A few things might have happened:
Every appointment has some form of contract agreement for payment. This to ensure we collect payment from our customers and pay our interpreters for their services during your appointment.
Sometimes businesses contract with multiple agencies. They will decide which has top priority and who are the secondary backup agencies. The 1st priority contract will handle most of their interpreter requests but may sometimes be unable to provide interpreters for some appointments. Those unfilled appointments could be passed to the 2nd priority agency to fulfill. Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing customers should contact the provider and identify how many agencies they work with.
Freelance interpreters are able to chose which interpreter agency or agencies they prefer to work with. We encourage interpreters to work for any agency to support Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing client preferences. If ASLIS does not have your preferred interpreter, we will contact the interpreter(s) and see if they are available to do your appointment.
