There are a variety of reasons as to why interpreters do not accept secure facility assignments. Some of these reasons include misconceptions about secure facilities, insufficient relevant training, and lack of support after assignments. This exacerbates the communication gaps for the Deaf/DeafBlind/Hard of Hearing individuals in secure facilities. ASLIS strives to achieve and maintain a 100% fill rate for all Minnesota’s secure facility requests.
