BS in screenwriting & AAS in Education
Bekah is the only Deaf person in a Hearing family. She wears a Cochlear Implant so uses both speech and ASL to communicate. Bekah was mainstreamed from preschool up until graduation, where she transitioned from High school to College and to her own apartment and a job. She first attended North Hennepin Community College to become a teacher and graduated with an AAS degree in Education. Then Bekah attended Metro State University for her BA degree in Screen writing.
Bekah had previously worked in a group home and has been there over 8 years, where she enjoyed working with Deaf clients and with the clients who have Mental Health issues. Starting as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a year, then she was then promoted to Lead for a year and a half, then promoted again to Designated Coordinator until the end of the summer of 2022. Bekah then changed positions to the Trainer and Schedule Manger. Bekah enjoys teaching and training clients who are with the State. She is also skilled with accommodating the staff and the clients who struggle with comprehension. Currently, Bekah works at Metro Deaf School in St. Paul as a paraprofessional and works one on one with a student and has been there for over 2 ½ years. She discovered she also loves working with children as well, helping kids improve their education by providing accommodations to those that struggle with Learning Disabilities.
