Event Details

September is National Guide Dog Month! Guide dogs are one accessibility resource available to DeafBlind clients. Does a service animal impact the interpreting process when working with a DeafBlind client? This Independent Study will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about service animals, vision loss, and interpreting for DeafBlind clients. You will read multiple articles and watch a short video, then write a response to provided questions.

Educational Objectives:

1) Define vision loss and how it impacts my interpreting practice.

2) Illustrate the difference between service animals and emotional support animals.

3) Explain any impacts that guide dogs may or may not have on the interpreting process.

4) Compare how interpreting for sighted and DeafBlind clients differ.
