Event Details
This interactive workshop focuses specifically on optimizing team dynamics between Deaf and hearing interpreters working in video remote settings. While co-located teams often rely on subtle cues, physical proximity, and established patterns of collaboration, remote environments require deliberate attention to teamwork strategies. Participants will explore concrete techniques for effective team coordination, including establishing clear visual signals, developing shared protocols for smooth handoffs, providing real-time support, and managing technical challenges as a unit. The workshop emphasizes practical approaches to maintaining cohesive teamwork despite physical separation, ensuring that interpreting teams can deliver seamless, high-quality access in virtual environments.
Educational Objectives:
- Establish and implement specific protocols for effective Deaf-hearing interpreter team coordination in remote settings, including clear visual cues, handoff signals, and support mechanisms
- Develop strategies for maintaining team cohesion and mutual support when interpreting remotely, including approaches to providing feedback, managing cognitive load, and addressing technical challenges collaboratively
- Apply team-centered solutions to common challenges in remote interpreting environments while preserving the linguistic and cultural integrity of the interpretation
ASLIS virtual workshops are NOT recorded for later viewing.

Ron Rood Jr.—just fingerspell R-O-N. I currently live in Rochester, NY, but I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Proud University of Michigan and Detroit Lions fan—Go Blue!
I come from a 4th-generation Deaf family on both sides, and my daughter continues the legacy as 5th-generation Deaf. My journey as a Deaf Interpreter began in 2013 when I was a stay-at-home dad after my daughter was born. I earned my Deaf Interpreter certification in 2016. Before transitioning into interpreting, I worked for many years as an ASL instructor at both RIT and Rochester School for the Deaf.
I attended Rochester School for the Deaf and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Deaf Studies/ASL from Gallaudet University (2002), followed by a Master’s in Secondary Education (K-12) from RIT (2006).
Currently, I serve as the ASL Manager at Equitihealth. I specialize in medical, legal, and press conference interpreting, working both locally and nationally.
