Deaf interpreting has been around for a long time, but only in recent years have Deaf interpreters become utilized more and more. While the usage has increased, not everyone is familiar with the unique ways Deaf interpreters can be utilized. In this interactive workshop, the presenter will cover not only the basics of what Deaf interpreters can do, but also how do you effectively team? How do you advocate for one? Who are they really for? We will also talk about various ways to “feed” and various unique ways Deaf interpreters can be utilized.
Presenter Bio
Laura SkyQuest (they/she) is a staff Certified Deaf Interpreter for ASLIS and has been working in the interpreting field for the past five years. Laura has also been a K-12 teacher/ASL specialist working in Deaf schools for the past 15 years.
