Learn how to identify various features of complex language structure used by proficient signers in causal ASL conversations/vlogs and how these features will help your signing skills. You will be able to apply complex ASL structures in translating English idioms & slang and describe how complex ASL structures benefit your interpreting work.
Educational Objectives:
1) Describe how complex ASL structures benefit interpreting work
2) Apply complex ASL structures in translating English idioms & slangs
3) Identify at least 3 aspects of fluent signing
Presenter Bio
Eric is an ASL poet, consultant & educator whose work has been featured in the Folger Shakespeare Library traveling exhibition and the New York Times article “American Sign Language Reveals Wordplay Beyond Sound”. He is passionate about elevating our understanding of ASL. He has given numerous workshops & presentations to various organizations, nonprofits, and colleges/universities. His groundbreaking research in advanced ASL can be found in the website Signplaying.com, which is currently being used as part of the ASL curriculum at CSUN, RIT/NTID, Boise State University as well as a training program for signing artists in Sweden-based theatre Riksteatern Crea.
