I like to take time to explain things in detail at a comfortable pace. I also utilize real-life experience to use as an example. I also am flexible with utilizing the SSP role or CN role. I have a good understanding that there is no “hard” standards with how things are executed with different DeafBlind persons as there are no “one size fits all” standards with guiding, SSP/CN role, tactile, and signing.
DeafBlind 101, Tactile ASL
I am an experienced mentor and enjoy giving interpreters and others positive “refresher courses”. I provide detailed, in-depth information. I am familiar with Tactile ASL and how interpreters need to adjust their signing to accommodate a wide variety of vision loss types.

I am told I don’t easily scare off the newbies and often have an abundance of patience with those I am working with. I am particularly interested in theater and religious interpreting for DeafBlind as there is a need for such services here. I also enjoy helping hearing interpreters become capable of copy/mirror interpreting without the benefit of relying on voice interpreters. I majored in ASL so have worked with “baby signers” all the way to fluent interpreters.

As a mentor, my strength lies in my deep understanding and appreciation of DeafBlind culture, particularly the ProTactile approach. I am committed to fostering engagement and passion among youth within the DeafBlind community. My experience allows me to provide nuanced guidance that respects and uplifts the unique perspectives and needs of DeafBlind individuals. Individuals who are passionate about learning and promoting ProTactile culture will find working with me rewarding, as I can offer insights, resources, and support in navigating this approach. Both seasoned interpreters and beginners seeking to enhance their understanding and practice of interpreting for the DeafBlind will benefit from my mentorship, as I can provide practical advice, feedback, and resources tailored to this specialized field. In essence, anyone with a genuine passion for fostering inclusivity, promoting DeafBlind culture, and engaging with youth in the community would find a supportive and enriching mentorship experience with me.
DeafBlind 101, VRI, Support Services Providers/ Intervener training.
I am an individual who is DeafBlind, having been born congenitally blind and developing a moderate to severe hearing loss over the past decade. While I am not a native ASL user, I tend to use pro-tactile communication I.E. haptics and back channeling and can provide mentorship to interpreters and other support providers on providing environmental information, communication facilitation, and much more. I am familiar with the needs of late-deafened blind individuals and am familiar with the wide range of needs this community has. I have taught Advocacy in the DeafBlind World (ADBW) for DeafBlind adults, a curriculum developed by and for the DeafBlind community and covers various aspects of life, focusing extensively on communication and the rights of DeafBlind people. I would be happy to mentor interpreters, SSPs, and interveners in all of these areas.
