Event Details
This workshop will introduce two important questions to discuss. How much do you know about the wilderness? Is the wilderness accessible to all people? This workshop will focus on two different topics: 1) activities in the wilderness, such as a camp game and knots skills. 2) expand your creativity and skills to make wilderness areas accessible for Deaf and DeafBlind communities. This presentation will have an activity, discussion, and interaction with other attendees. Analyze and reflect on how you will support Deaf and Deafblind communities in the wilderness!
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1) Define Wilderness Accessibility.
2) Describe at least two outdoor activities in their stories.
3) Identify the three correct ways to support the communities in the Wilderness.
Presenter Bio
Riss Leitzke was born and grew up in Washington State. Their family and they moved to Minnesota in 2010. Graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a B.A. in Environmental and Outdoor Education. They have a passion for Wilderness accessibility and they have been involved with many outdoor organizations for 9 years. They wanted to break the barriers of access to the wilderness because many people of all abilities, backgrounds, and ages do not have full access to wilderness. In their opinion, the wilderness should not be limited to everyone. They are a program coordinator at Wilderness Inquiry and working with them since June.
