Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
– Distinguish the various foundational components of emotional intelligence (EI).
– Define and identify the five components of Goleman’s EI Model which include self-management, self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
– Understand the history, cultural impacts, and social importance of emotional intelligence that EI has in the interpreting community
Presenter Bio
Sarah Wheeler, M.Ed. M.S., NIC-Advanced, is currently working as a freelance ASL/English interpreter. She is a Coda and has been working as a professional interpreter since 2007 and has presented nationally and internationally on various topics related to ASL/English Interpreting. She has served in the Air Force for six years, holds a B.A. in Business Management from Mount Olive College, a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke Continuing Studies, an M.Ed. in Interpreter Pedagogy from Northeastern University, and a second Master’s degree in General Psychology and has been focusing her work on emotional intelligence within the interpreting profession.
