PPE Recommendations for Healthcare Facilities

PPE "GO-BAGS"

Healthcare facilities strongly recommend PPE “GO-BAGS” that can be left in your car and carried with you to be prepared for almost any event.

PPE “GO-BAGS” can include:

Appropriate PPE stored in separate paper bags to deter contamination
Disinfectant wipes – to clean clear masks
Eye Goggles or Face Shields if you have them
Hand sanitizer
Regular hospital masks
Additional face coverings that can be worn after leaving the hospital, if needed

Clear Mask

The Clear Mask is reusable. An infection prevention department at a local healthcare facility has discovered these masks can be disinfected and wiped down.

Communicator Masks

The Communicator Mask is more difficult to clean and re-use, and is not highly recommended.

N-95 Respirators

Interpreters are allowed to wear their own N-95 respirators to a healthcare assignment. It is essential to ensure it is an appropriate fit, and not purchased for general use.

At a healthcare assignment and need a mask or face shield?

Prior to entering into the patient’s room, ask the charge nurse or HUC where to find appropriate PPE specific for that room and patient. The on-duty nurse may not be able to assist you as that may cause them to become distracted or busy.
