This workshop is designed to introduce ASL interpreters to the distinct differences between police interviews and forensic interviews. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the unique characteristics, purposes, and methodologies of each type of interview.
Educational Objectives:
Participants Will:
* Understand fundamental differences between police and forensic interviews
* Identify various individuals involved in police and forensic interviews
* Learn characteristics and types of police interviews
* Comprehend purpose behind different lines of police and forensic questioning
* Recognize the importance of accurately interpreting Miranda Rights
* Gain insights into forensic interviews from experts at Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center
* Participate in mock forensic interviews and engage in a Q&A Session with Safe Shores DC

Presenter Bio
Cynthia J. Norman brings over 35 years of distinguished expertise as an ASL Interpreter, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to professional excellence in the field. Nationally certified, she resides in Washington, DC. Cynthia’s expertise extends to presenting workshops, where she shares her wealth of knowledge gained over the past three and half decades.
As a direct provider of ASL interpreting services, Cynthia has worked closely with a local police department. Her commitment to bridging knowledge gaps between ASL interpreters and law enforcement agencies is evident through her extensive one-on-on conversations with police officers, her participation in police Ride-Along’s and observations during police in-service trainings.
