Technology has transformed how we communicate, and interpreters need more than just linguistic skills to succeed. This workshop dives into the real-world challenges of remote interpreting mediation—exploring how to stay professional, effective, and connected when you’re working through a screen.
We know remote interpreting isn’t just about translating words. It’s about navigating technical hiccups, reading between digital communication lines, and maintaining your professional edge—all while bridging language gaps in virtual spaces.
Whether it’s a glitchy video call, a missed non-verbal cue, or a complex cross-cultural moment, interpreters need a toolkit that goes beyond traditional interpretation skills.
This workshop is your opportunity to level up your remote interpreting game. We’ll tackle the nuanced art of communication in digital environments, sharing practical strategies for building trust, managing interactions, and maintaining transparent communication that respects everyone’s communicative autnomy.
Educational Objectives:
After this workshop, interpreters will be better:
1. Equipped to discuss the impact different communication styles have on encounters, participants and the profession.
2. Prepared to apply scripting for diverse encounters where strategic mediation is critical to the success of the encounter.
ASLIS virtual workshops are NOT recorded for later viewing.
