Event Details
While interpreting, there are plenty of moments where the interpreter will have to intervene to provide strategic mediation or request additional support. However, the way a request is made may not always come with the rapport building soft skills necessary; how interpreters communicate can have a significant impact on the encounter and perception of the profession. In this workshop we will walk through common scenarios interpreters face with participants that require intervention, especially when serious challenges are presented. We will develop scripting and have opportunity for role play to practice using soft skills that build rapport, trust, and demonstrate collaboration with participants.
Educational Objectives:
After this workshop, interpreters will be better:
1. Equipped to discuss theimpact different communication styles have on encounters, participants and theprofession.
2. Prepared to apply scripting for diverse encounters where strategic mediation is critical to the success of the encounter.
ASLIS virtual workshops are NOT recorded for later viewing.
